Kana Bifrost Lycaen. Son of Corrin and Keaton. Part wolfskin, part dragon, part human.

Kana grows up in his deeprealm alongside his sister Velouria. The plains and forest are vast and lush, and as natural-born hunters they don’t want for food. While both kids are slower to develop social skills, essentially isolated from the world apart from their caretaker and their parents’ visits, they make up for it in spades by sharpening their wolfskin instinct.

One day Kana comes home from a hunt, squirrel in hand, to find his parents. Ecstatic and surprised he forgets all about his mark and goes to hug them. Corrin and Keaton tell the siblings that their affairs are just about wrapped up, and that the two of them are going to be Prince and Princess of Valla. They’ll get to live in the Astral Plane and mingle with the other kids for a while before the castle is ready for their move. Kana is excited but nervous as he packs his things, being certain not to leave any of his favorite treasures behind, and they offer a heartfelt goodbye to their caretaker before leaving with Corrin and Keaton.

Kana is first introduced to Dwyer and Sophie, who will serve as his royal retainers. He then meets the other kids and gets along with them well enough, but essentially growing up as a wild child has severely hampered his ability to understand them. During a game of tag, he pushes another kid way too hard and doesn’t get why the others are upset at him. He sits on the side of a building, sulking, before somebody approaches him. It’s Forrest.

Forrest asks what’s wrong, and Kana genuinely doesn’t know. But Forrest patiently works with him to figure out what happened, then explains what he did wrong and helps him apologize to the others. Excited he gets to play again, Kana waves and shouts “thank you!” before running off to join the other kids.

The next day, Kana seeks out Forrest at breakfast. Forrest is sitting with Kiragi, whom Kana bonds with by talking all about his hunts in the deeprealm and sharing tips back and forth. For a few days, Kana and Forrest bond by sitting with each other over meals, but outside of that Kana is usually outside playing while Forrest stays inside. One day, Forrest shows him his tailoring hobby and promises to make Kana some comfy clothes. He also thanks Kana for never mentioning his clothes, because everybody else brings it up at least once. But the thing is Kana literally doesn’t even have the social knowledge to recognize Forrest was wearing anything out of the ordinary (though if anything he would have found it endearing had he known).

Some weeks later, a letter is delivered informing the kids it’s almost time to go to their home. Most kids are excited, but when Forrest hears the news he notices he hasn’t seen Kana all day. He looks for him and quickly finds him sitting up against the same building where they first met. Kana tells Forrest that he’s excited to go to Valla but he wonders, doesn’t that mean he won’t see Forrest and all his other friends again? Forrest promises they’ll keep in touch and helps lift his spirits. He joins Kana as he says goodbye to all his friends. They stay together for the rest of the day until finally Kana’s parents show up. They share a heartfelt goodbye and promise to see each other again before Kana leaves the Astral Plane to move to Valla with his family.

Life in Valla is fun at first, but princely responsibilities begin to wear out Kana who wants nothing more than to just go out hunting but doesn’t understand why he isn’t allowed to. He begins to struggle with his tutoring as well as his etiquette training. Confiding in and sharing his struggles with his sister helps him for a while, but eventually Corrin decides it will help Kana to learn the purpose of his role firsthand so he sends him to join Shigure on a visit to provide aid and resources to a few nearby towns. Here, Kana does grow an appreciation for helping his people, but he also overhears conversations and learns about the tension between the Nohrian and Hoshidan sides of Valla.

Despite growing from this experience, Kana still struggles to grapple with the conflict between his wolf hood and his humanity. Around the time he turns 16, he learns about the wolfskin tribe from his father, and he runs away from home to journey there.

It’s a long journey, but Kana makes it all the way to Mount Garou using the skills he developed as a kid. With his wolfskin brethren so close he can catch their scent, Kana encounters a poacher who sics his hunting wolves on Kana. Kana transforms to kill the poacher and injure the wolves, but not without suffering grave wounds himself. Somehow he senses something familiar, so he musters all his strength to walk toward the nearest road before collapsing at the side of it.

Unbeknownst to Kana, Keaton can guess where Kana was headed and has sent urgent correspondence to Nohr to tell them where he’s headed and ask that they bring him back home. Forrest, who was about to leave for a village aid mission similar to Kana’s, has also been asked to take a detour in case he finds Kana.

Forrest travels down the same road and eventually finds a collapsed, bloodied wolfskin. Worried, but unsure whether it’s Kana, Forrest carefully approaches with his healing staff in hand. Kana senses Forrest’s familiar scent and aura, which lets him regain consciousness. He looks up, sees Forrest, and transforms back to human form without saying a word; however, his untended wounds also transfer to his human body, badly scarring him. He passes out again from the shock.

Forrest urgently heals Kana as best as he can, then his retainers Nina and Ophelia help get Kana up on Forrest’s horse. Nina rides ahead to hurry back to the castle and inform them of the situation and get another unit to carry out the aid mission while Forrest tends to Prince Kana.

Some time later, Kana wakes up in a place he doesn’t recognize, partially wrapped up in bandages but with some massive red scars exposed toward his upper body. He can barely move his body, so he just lays there and tries to fall back asleep. After a while Forrest enters the room to check up on him, but Kana is barely able to emote or react so Forrest thinks he’s still asleep. He takes a look at Kana’s body and starts sobbing quietly before leaving.

Kana remains bedridden for a few days, but with more healing he’s able to get up and walk with Forrest’s support. He undergoes physical therapy to regain his strength and movement for a time, and his body hurts less and less as each day goes by. Forrest stays by his side as much as possible throughout the whole ordeal. One day, Kana confides in Forrest and tells him about everything that happened. How things changed for him when he moved to Valla and why that led to him running away. He asks if Forrest is going to take him back home, to which Forrest struggles to answer but tells him that yes, he must. However, Forrest also tells him that he wants to be there for him. He’ll write to him and visit, doing his best to help ease the burden on Kana.

After about a month of recovery, it’s time for Kana to return home. Forrest, along with Nina and Ophelia, escort him back to Valla. The journey takes a few days by horse. At night, Kana shares Forrest’s tent and confides in him more. The night before they arrive, Kana gets extremely scared/emotional, and starts crying while trying to sleep. Forrest moves over to comfort him, giving him a hug but forgetting about Kana’s sensitive scars. A pain quickly shoots through Kana’s chest, but the pain doesn’t hurt. It reminds him that Forrest is on his side and helps calm him down.

When Forrest gets Kana back home, the three of them are welcomed to stay and enjoy a meal. Forrest stays by Kana’s side and, while Kana is extremely overwhelmed by being back home, he at least enjoys getting to show Forrest his treasure collection. Eventually, it’s time for Forrest to leave. It’s a difficult, heartfelt goodbye, and Kana watches the trio leave until they’re well beyond the horizon. Dwyer fetches Kana, telling him that Keaton wants to see him.

Kana is scared to face his father, but to his surprise, Keaton speaks to him with empathy. He understands Kana’s plight even without his son needing to say a word. They talk honestly, and eventually Kana shows Keaton his scars. He expects his father to be scared or angry, but instead he’s impressed. He exclaims, “wait ‘til the other guys see this!” and treats Kana as if his huge scars grant him immense respect. Keaton promises to smooth things over with Corrin, then tells Kana he’ll take him out hunting every week.

Over the next few months, Kana’s life smooths out to a somewhat acceptable balance between managing his responsibilities and being a wolfskin. Through letter correspondence with Forrest, Forrest tells him about a number of oddities in the Vallite territory he’s researched that might make for a good treasure. What catches Kana’s eye is a pure white flower shaped like a star.

He talks to his family, asking if anybody has seen the flower before, and decides to make it the target of his next treasure hunt. However, he doesn’t find one for quite a long time. When Forrest comes to visit about 6 months after Kana has returned home, they go out for a treasure hunt and manage to find the flower together. Around the same time, the two share their first kiss, marking the start of their romantic relationship.

Also, during Forrest’s visit and throughout his letter correspondence he imparts on Kana the real value of his role as a prince who can support and take care of his people. Kana starts to take his position more seriously and goes out on more frequent visits to provide aid and help in the rebuilding efforts for his people. Kana starts becoming even more aware of the tension that remains between previous Nohrians and Hoshidans, so he starts planning a festival to bring the two halves of Valla together.

Around Kana’s seventeenth birthday, Keaton takes both him and Velouria out for a proper visit to the wolfskin tribe. Kana has an amazing time meeting fellow wolfskins for the first time in his life, and learning about his people and culture. He learns about how his father used to act when he was Kana’s age, and he learns about the wolfskin marriage customs, where one wolfskin must prove his strength to his mate by killing a bear native to the mountain and collecting its tooth as a prize. The whole tribe roars in applause and hollering when Kana tells them about how he killed a poacher. Before they return home, the new wolfskin chief takes him out on a hunt and compliments his scars.

Two years go by, the passage of time marked by his regular letter correspondence with Forrest, as Kana settles into his comfortable status quo. Kana’s relationship with Forrest develops steadily, though progress is slow because of their distance. He’s been dreaming of his festival idea, but he hasn’t figured out how to actually put it all together. This changes shortly before his 20th birthday when he finally decides to just send out letters to every village in Vallite territory. To his surprise, a handful of village elders from both sides of the country agree to hold the festival. For the next several months, he meets with these elders to make plans, and finally the festival is held on a warm summer day at the castle grounds.

Kana eagerly explores each festival booth, catching up with the people selling and showing off their product and culture. He hopes to see Forrest and finally he catches a glimpse of him along with his retainers at a jewelry booth. They hug and kiss then spend the whole day walking the festival grounds together.

As Forrest leaves once again, Kana realizes how strongly he doesn’t want to be apart from him anymore. Kana asks his father about the marriage ritual he learned about back at the tribe, and Keaton gives him his full support to go and marry Forrest. Dwyer and Sophie escort him to Mount Garou where he kills the bear, plucks it tooth, then makes for Castle Krakenburg to propose to Forrest. Meanwhile, Corrin and Keaton have handled the correspondence with Nohr to get their approval.

Kana knocks on Forrest’s workshop door, surprising him. Kana sits down with him and presents the tooth proudly; however, Forrest doesn’t know what it means. Kana tries his best to explain in human terms what it means and Forrest happily agrees to the proposal.

Their wedding comes soon after, Nohr having already made the preparations. Kana and Forrest, now husbands, live together in Nohr. For the first few months of their relationship, Kana takes advantage of “breaking free” from his chains by taking his wolfskin form and dragon form as much as he possibly can. Forrest slowly helps him grow to love all forms of himself, despite the trauma suffered from his upbringing, and the pair live happily, providing for their people of both Nohr and Valla.
